Infuzion is so excited to have a Raleigh-based Irish dance school, Inis Cairde, using its facility every Thursday. Inis Cairde, meaning "Circle of Friends" in Gaelic, has been promoting Irish step dancing in the Triangle since 1999. Originally located in Raleigh, the studio has expanded to having classes in Cary as well as here at Infuzion. They are proud to have Regional, North American as well as World champion Irish step students in their school. Classes run for ages 3 through adult. To find out more information, check out their website at www.iniscairde.com, and get steppin'!

Students and their friends that participate will be given prizes and be eligible for a drawing to win a gift card to Best Buy! Invitations will be provided by teachers for students to hand out to their friends beginning the week of October 24th. Start thinking about who you would like to invite and mark your calendars for Bring a Friend Week, scheduled between Monday November 7th and Saturday, November 12th for all music, kid's dance and martial arts classes. Students enrolled in the upcoming session of adult dance classes may invite friends for the first week of classes, beginning November 14th.
Zumba Craze Competition
Beginning October 24th, Infuzion is going to have our bi-annual Zumba competition, Zumba Craze! This competition lasts for a total of 4 weeks. Basically, every time you come to a Zumba class, you will receive one point. During the Thanksgiving Break, we will tally up the points and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners with the most points will receive prizes such as Infuzion gear, Zumba punch cards and maybe some extra special gifts provided by our neighbors at the Body Cafe. So, gear up, join the competition, and come to Zumba as often as you can! During this competition, attendees that invite a friend that has never attended a Zumba class at Infuzion will receive 2 points! Friends will be admitted to Zumba classes for only $5 during this event.
Instructor of the Month: Matt McLaughlin
Infuzion Piano Instructor, Matthew McLaughlin
Matthew has been with Infuzion since February of 2006. In that time, he has maintained a studio of over 25 students year round, on piano, trumpet, and French Horn. Matthew has a BM from Westminster College in Music Education. In addition to teaching at Infuzion, he is the band director at Immaculata Catholic School in Durham, NC. Matthew has performed with the North Carolina Wind Orchestra, Raleigh Symphony, Triangle Wind Ensemble, and the orchestras for the Chapel Hill Community Chorus and the Durham Chorale. He is also deeply involved in the music program at Triangle Presbyterian Church.
Matthew's piano students participate in the auditions hosted by the National Guild of Piano Teachers, a division of the American College of Musicians. This is an annual nation-wide adjudication event in which students prepare a memorized program for a judge. Over the past 3 years, Matthew's students have earned 27 national certificates, 3 state certificates, 1 local certificate, and 3 hobbyist certificates, and he hopes to continue that track of success. In 2012, select students will be participating in the state-wide piano competition hosted by the North Carolina Music Teacher's Association.
This past summer, Matthew and his wife, Heather, had the opportunity to travel with a ministry to Kenya. The organization, Staff of Hope, has been working in Kenya for 10 years helping to make clean water more accessible to remote regions of the country. While there, Matthew and Heather worked at the school and medical center that Staff of Hope operates. This was a life changing experience for Matthew, and he loves to talk about it. Be sure to seek him out and ask him about his trip!
Infuzion Rocks!
Infuzion's newest program, Infuzion Rocks!, is finally here! Many students learn their instrument of choice in isolation. They never get a chance to join a band or learn how to play well with others. The Infuzion Rocks! program changes that. This is an opportunity for students to play in a rock band and to use what they're learning in private lessons. It's the logical next step in musicianship.
Infuzion Rocks! exists to teach students skills vital to pulling off a successful gig, including:
Gig preparation (it's more than just practicing)
Listening to yourlsef and others at the same time
Playing rhymically, melodically, and harmonically as a group
Developing musical ideas and writing songs
Transcription and arrangement
Overcoming stage fright
Performance experience
Current music students at Infuzion are invited to join the Infuzion Rocks! program by their teacher. Students are encouraged to ask their teacher whether they are ready. If not, don't worry: This is an opportunity to develop goals and work toward sufficient mastery to earn an invitation to Infuzion Rocks! For more information, visit our website.

Got Books?
Do your kids have books they have outgrown? Infuzion is partnering with Book Harvest to collect new and gently used children's books and place them in the hands and homes of children who need them. More than half of all underprivileged kids own no books at all! With your help, Book Harvest can change that. Just bring your books to Infuzion and place them in the brightly colored bin in the large waiting area.
Since Book Harvest started in January, it has given more than 26,000 books to kids who need them in 20 locations around the Triangle. To learn more, please visit www.bookharvestnc.org. Thank you for helping to ensure a brighter future for all our children!
